Sidney Sheldon may have passed on last year, but his story telling style is alive and well in the hands of Derek Adie Flower's The Tuscan Trilogy - A Rose by Any Other Name.Flower's tale is reminiscent of a couple of Sheldon's books. I was reminded of two in particular - Rage of Angels and The Other Side of Midnight - both great reads.Trilogy -A Rose by Any Other Name is a fascinating and satisfying read and Flowers ability to craft this engrossing tale makes him a worthy successor to Sheldon's literary crown. It is obvious that Flower's has done his "historical homework" in this tale that begins in the Chianti Hills of Tuscany circa WWII and ends in the same location some 30 years later. His diligence in maintaining historical accuracy, developing interesting characters and situations, and offering insights into Italy's culture adds to the overall reading experience as this saga of lost love, devastating secrets, betrayal, corruption, hedonistic behaviour, justice and redemption unfolds.Although the trials and tribulations of Rosalina Pasquetti are at the heart of this story, it is the supporting characters in this chronicle who provide the flesh and blood to make this book exceptional instead of just a run of the mill love story. 4 ½ stars
